Top 10 DIY Home Remedies for Hair Lightening

Everything is possible when it comes to DIY – even lightening your hair without using any chemical products. If you haven’t tried it by now, yet you want a lighter version of your hair, then you should definitely give it a try.

This homemade option is budget-friendly and uses only natural ingredients. In most of the recipes below, you will see that the same products are being used in almost each and lemon and chamomile tea.

The recipes are similar, so it’s up to you to find out which works for you the best. Note that everyone’s hair is different, so what works for you might not work for some other woman. Prepare the one you like the most, and we hope you will see the results ASAP!

Combine and mix all ingredients until you have a homogeneous mixture. Use the mask before washing your hair and apply it only to the strands. You will need to wash your hair twice because of the possibility of having some oil from the mask.

This hair lightening spray requires the following ingredients: 1/4 cup hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup room temperature chamomile tea, 1/2 cup room temperature water juice from one freshly squeezed lemon. This recipe uses hydrogen peroxide, so only use this spray if your hair is natural – no dye! Except if you dye it with henna or herbs. This is not recommended because, most likely, your hair will have an orange effect.

For this hair lightening spray, you need lemon juice, olive oil, but you can use other oils such as  avocado oil, grape seed oil, sunflower oil, or almond oil, hydrogen peroxide 3%, and water. Containing hydrogen peroxide means that this spray will damage your hair a little bit, so avoid damaging it even more. Can add other ingredients that can help improve lightenings, such as chamomile extract or lemon or sunflower extract that will protect your hair and color from UVA and UVB rays.

Let the tea cool down with the teabag still in. Fill about 2/3 of the spraying bottle with the tea mixture and fill the rest with lemon juice. Shake it before use and for the best results, after you apply it to your hair, stay outside so that the Sun can work some magic on your hair too!

Here’s another cinnamon recipe that you can try out. All you need is your favorite conditioner, ground cinnamon, and olive or almond oil. You will also need an old shirt (you don’t want to ruin a new one accidentally!), bowl, kitchen brush, and few hair clippers. You will need a mixture of these that won’t be too liquid but either too sticky. Apply the mixture all over your hair and cover it with a towel. Keep it covered for eight hours or overnight, and then wash your hair. Do this twice per week, and you should see results within two weeks.

For this hairspray, you need 2 teaspoons dried German chamomile flowers (double the quantity if using fresh), 1 teaspoon lime or lemon peel, and 1 ½ cups water. Thanks to the chamomile, your hair can have a golden tint, yet it won’t damage your hair. When choosing chamomile, you have two choices – German or Romanian, but it’s better to pick the first one when it comes to hair lightening. Also, another benefit of chamomile is that it is a great hair tonic.

As the recipe goes according to the website, to lighten your hair with rhubarb, you need to use  ¼ cup of chopped rhubarb to 2 cups of water. Boil these two ingredients and strain the juice. Let it cool down completely, and then you can apply it to your hair and leave it for 10 minutes. Don’t leave it for longer than that because rhubarb contains pectin, which will make your hair sticky if it stays for too long.
